Actor Aamir Khan who has been drawing criticism for his statement on rising levels of 'intolerance' in the country , on Wednesday said neither he nor his wife have any intention of leaving India.
Reacting to the censure that he is 'anti-national' he said, "Let me state categorically that neither I, nor my wife Kiran, have any intention of leaving the country. We never did, nor would we like to in the future. Anyone implying the opposite has either not seen my interview or is deliberately trying to distort what I have said. India is my country, I love it, I feel fortunate for being born here, and this is where I am staying," Aamir stated.

"Secondly, I stand by everything that I have said in my interview. To all those people who are calling me anti-national, I would like to say that I am proud to be an Indian, and I do not need anyone's permission or endorsement for that," he said. The actor's remarks on intolerance continued to draw frenzy even on Wednesday with political parties hitting out on him.
Amid the controversy, speaking at National Film Development Corporation of India (NFDC) Film Bazaar at the 46th International Film Festival of India (IffI) at Panaji, renowned music composer AR Rahman said, "I had gone through something similar a couple of months ago". He was referring to Mumbai-based Raza Academy's fatwa against him after he composed the music for Iranian film 'Muhammad: Messenger of God'.
Rahman, who was known as AS Dileep Kumar before he embraced Islam, also said, "Everything should be done classily. I feel what people are doing is very poetic. We should set an example for the world because we come from the land of Mahatma Gandhi".
Meanwhile, a post went viral on social media, projected as written by Bangladeshi author Taslima Nasreen, stating, "Taslima Nasreen noted Bangladesh writer commented today - Amir Khan you earned 300 crores by mocking Hindu gods in PK if you would have done this in Pakistan, Bangladesh or on Muslim religion you would have been hanged and still you say India is intolerant." In one tweet, Nasreen denying the statement said, "Ridiculous. This is not my statement. Bad people put words in my mouth."

In parallel, many political leaders and people from the film industry came to Aamir's rescue. NCP chief Sharad Pawar shielding Aamir said, "Aamir could leave the country if he wanted to, was also indicative of intolerance. The country is not any body's private property."
Choreographer-turned-film maker Farah Khan said , "I just want to say that there is no intolerance but when somebody has a point of view, everybody jumps on him and attacks him, that is the very definition of intolerance."
The outrage reached an extent where a complaint was filed in a court against Aamir and wife under various sections, including sedition over his remarks. Snapdeal distanced itself from the remark saying the comments made by the actor were in his personal capacity and it was in no way connected with them as Aamir is promoting its retail website.
